Captura
Captura technology provides a simple, streamlined process for large-scale Direct Ocean Capture of carbon.
“Captura is pleased to count Japan Airlines among our leading team of investors. This collaboration highlights our mutual commitment to advancing scalable net zero solutions for hard-to-decarbonize sectors such as aviation. Captura’s Direct Ocean Capture technology removes CO2 directly from the ocean, amplifying the ocean’s natural removal of CO2 from the atmosphere. It delivers two complementary pathways for decarbonizing aviation: the captured CO2 can be used to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel, or it can be permanently stored to deliver carbon dioxide removal. By investing in Captura, Japan Airlines is proactively contributing to advancing technologies that support a sustainable, net zero future in aviation.”

“I have been closely following Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, which removes CO2 directly from the atmosphere, since around the winter of 2022. However, I was truly astonished by the potential of Direct Ocean Capture (DOC) when I first learned about it at a conference hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the fall of 2023. I feel honored to address the global challenge of decarbonization alongside promising partners like Captura. In the short to medium term, we are exploring options such as carbon credits, and in the future, we aim to venture into new business that utilize captured CO2 for the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other applications.”
